We will hold an intimate tea ceremony in English, limited to a small number of people, in the historical tearoom located within Nagoya Castle .Beginners are welcome to join and learn the basic etiquettes, including how to enjoy traditional sweets and matcha.You can enjoy the delicate flavors of traditional Japanese sweets and matcha while observing the tea ceremony in the historical tearoom.You can learn how to make a bowl of matcha through the hands-on experience of preparing matcha yourself.Take your time to relax, enjoying the view of the garden, listening to explanations of seasonal decorum and utensils, and immersing yourself in a serene atmosphere.
・The capacity is limited to 8 people per seating.
・Basically, reservations are required in advance, but if there is availability, on-the-day participation is possible.

Tea Ceremony in the Tearoom of Nagoya Castle

A visit to Nagoya Castle allows visitors to enjoy the gorgeous architecture of the castle, with the castle tower rising in the center and the Honmaru Palace in its forefront.Less well known, however, is the fact that if you go through the passage next to the castle tower, you will find a sprawling 2000㎡ garden with tearooms that are not open to the public.

Private Area

You'll step through a gate that divides the public from the private, leaving behind the bustling atmosphere.Beyond lies a quiet and peaceful space, home to an exclusive tea ceremony house not accessible to all visitors.
Immerse yourself in the tranquility of this hidden gem as we host our tea ceremony within its walls.To ensure an intimate and peaceful experience, each session will accommodate only up to 8 guests per seating.

Japanese Traditional Architecture

The tea ceremony will be held in two tearooms with different atmospheres: a big room called "Shoin" and a small room called "Sarumen tearoom".

Historic Tearoom

The Sarumen tearoom was built in the 17th century during the construction of the Nagoya Castle.The original tearoom was destroyed by fire during the World War Ⅱ, but the fortunate preservations of its blueprints enabled its faithful reconstruction.

Learn the Tradition in English

Firstly, we will begin with an explanation of the tea ceremony in the Shoin.Chairs will be available for those who are not comfortable sitting on the floor.The explanations will be conducted exclusively in English throughout this event.
Japanese guests are more than welcome to join, with the understanding that the explanations will be given only in English.

Enjoy Sweets and Matcha

In the Sarumen tearoom, you will enjoy traditional sweets and matcha while observing the tea ceremony.We will guide you through the basics of tea ceremony etiquette, so that even beginners can fully enjoy the experience.Allow yourself to escape the hustle of daily life and enjoy a peaceful moment in this exceptional setting.

Experience Making Tea by Yourself

In the Shoin, you will enjoy the hands-on experience of making your own bowl of matcha.Learn the art of preparing matcha and enjoy making matcha at home.We hope this tea ceremony will serve as a gateway for you to become familiar with the Japanese tradition of tea.
