Good Job! Traveling Worker
Laughing, feeling sad, falling in love with food - life is busy with many things. Among them, work, which is directly linked to one's growth and way of life, is a major theme in life. In the Edo period, when there were no wars, economic activity flourished and people's lives became dramatically stable. The development of roads also revitalized logistics and travel, and it was the workers who lived along the roads who played an active role. This exhibition introduces all the workers who work along the road, such as couriers, Kawagoe porters, checkpoint officials, and masseurs, from the world of Utagawa Hiroshige's paintings. The image of people believing in and helping each other for a better life and living a strong life is full of hints that can relieve the tired minds of modern people.
