Special Exhibition: Commemorating the Renovation of the Mausoleum: The Owari Tokugawa Family and Their Family Temple, Kenchuji Temple
Tokuko-san Kenchu-ji Temple was founded by the second Tokugawa lord, Mitsutomo, to commemorate Yoshinao, the first lord of the Owari Tokugawa clan, who died in 1650. As a family temple, successive heads of the clan and their families built buildings and donated treasures, as well as a mausoleum to house the mortuary tablets of successive generations and a graveyard to house their beloved belongings. This exhibition will display all the treasures associated with Kenchu-ji Temple in one place, and will unravel the history of Kenchu-ji Temple, which walked alongside the Owari Tokugawa clan. It will also introduce the recent renovation work on the Kenchu-ji Mausoleum.
