Special exhibition "Food habits in the Yayoi period"
Aichi Asahi Ruins Museum will hold a special exhibition on the diet of the Yayoi period.
It is believed that during the Yayoi period, when rice cultivation became widespread, there was a major change in diet, from hunting and gathering to farming. On the other hand, in addition to carbonized rice seeds, many fish and shellfish such as carp, crucian carp, black porgy, clams and oysters, and animal bones such as wild boar and deer have been excavated from the Asahi Ruins, providing various information on the diversity of food in the Yayoi period.
What was the diet of the Yayoi period like? This special exhibition will introduce the excavated plants and animals and the tools used to obtain them, as well as the actual diet of the Yayoi period as revealed by the latest scientific analysis of Yayoi pottery, such as impression replica analysis*1, use trace analysis of soot and burnt items, and residual lipid analysis*2.
We look forward to your visit.
