Tokugawa Art Museum 90th Anniversary Special Exhibition "National Treasure: Hatsune's Furnishings"
The National Treasure ""Hatsune Furnishings"" is a timeless masterpiece that shines out of the Tokugawa Art Museum's collection of over 10,000 items, and is a source of world pride.
These furnishings were made to order in 1639 as wedding furniture for the eldest daughter of the third shogun, Iemitsu, Chiyohime, when she married the second head of the Owari Tokugawa clan, Mitsutomo. Having overcome the threat of loss,
70 pieces of these masterpieces of lacquer work, representative of the Edo period, have been handed down as a single collection. All of this intricate and luxurious golden wedding furniture for a feudal lord, will be on display at once. This special exhibition takes place once every 10 years.
