■ Obara Japanese Paper Exhibition: Not Just White
An exhibit of Shirotori Garden's camellias was held exactly one year ago, and upon asking a specialist about the white camellia's name, they answered with "They are not just white." Even so, looking at the ever so graceful flowers, they were indeed white.
With Japanese paper too, depending on where the raw material of paper mulberry is grown, the whiteness of the paper can vary greatly. Look at it another way: The Inuits too have a variety of words for "white", important to describe the variety of different types of snow.
Take in the beauty of so many different shades of "white" through the beauty of Japanese paper.
