Nagoya Autumn Leaves 2024 special feature
Get an introduction to the must-see fall color spots in Nagoya and the surrounding area. Many of the featured spots also offer nighttime illumination for a magical atmosphere different than the daytime.

Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens
Around 500 broadleaf trees including Japanese maples and Japanese red maples offer their beauty with one of the most beautiful reflections off the water's surface in Nagoya.
• Best viewing time: Mid-Nov–early Dec (approx. 500 Japanese maples, Japanese red maples, and more)
• Operation hours: 9:00 am–4:50 (admission until 4:30 pm)
• Closed: Mon (the following day if Mon coincides with a national holiday or make-up holiday)
Price: JPY 500 for adults / Free of charge for junior high school ages and younger

• Directions:
• 3-min. walk from Exit 3 of Higashiyama Koen Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line.
• 7-min. walk from Exit 6 of Hoshigaoka Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line.
Notes:
• Hoshigaoka Station is a better choice for those coming to collect leaves.

Tokugawaen Garden
This Japanese garden's hours of operation are lengthened for a nighttime illumination letting you see a whole new aura different than the daytime and imparting a sense of peace.
• Best viewing time: Mid-Nov–early Dec (approx. 100 maples and more)
• Operation hours:
• 9:30 am–5:30 pm (Typical hours. Admission until 5:00 pm.)
• 9:30 am–8:00 pm (Illumination period. Admission until 7:30 pm.)
• Closed: Mon
• Price: JPY 300 for adults / Free of charge for junior high school ages and younger

Shirotori Garden
A large-scale flower arrangement display is held during the peak of nearly 1,500 various trees, including Japanese maples and white enkianthus. Tea ceremonies are held inside Suiu-Tei Teahouse, letting you appreciate the fall colors as you sip on a warm cup of tea, as well as a friendly market on the lawn. Enjoy the vivid seasonal colors as they reflect off the water's surface and are lit up during the festival period for surreal scenes of beauty.
• Best viewing time: Late Nov–early Dec (approx. 1,500 maples and more)
• Operation hours: 9:00 am–5:00 pm (admission until 4:30 pm)
• Closed: Mon (the following weekday if Mon coincides with a national holiday)

Yagotosan Koshoji Temple
An array of maple tree varieties paints the temple premises in the shades of autumn. Of particular beauty are the views inside Fumon-en Garden and from the Chikusui-Tei Teahouse.
• Best viewing time: Late Nov–early Dec (approx. 100 maples and more)
• Operation hours: All day (Sutra submission office: 8:00 am–5:00 pm / Fumon-en Garden visitation: 10:00 am–4:00 pm)
• Closed: None (Fumon-en Garden visitation: irregular holidays occur)
• Price: JPY 500 to visit Fumon-en Garden (Reservation required. Check official site to confirm days of operation.)

Yokiso Garden
Around 100 trees, such as Japanese maples, dye Yokiso Garden in shades of red and gold. Delight in the different views available in the North Garden and among the Choshokaku building in the South Garden.

• Operation hours: 9:30 am–4:30 pm
• Closed: Mon (the directly following weekdays if Mon coincides with a national holiday)
• Price: JPY 300 for adults / Free of charge for junior high school ages and younger (Prices for Choshokaku Building in the South Garden. Admission to the North Garden free of charge.)

• Directions: Approx. 10-min. walk north from Exit 1 of Kakuozan Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line.
Meijo Park
Meijo Park lies a stone's throw away from Nagoya Castle, near Nagoya Station and the Sakae area in downtown Nagoya. Though it's located in this booming metropolis, it offers relaxing walks and the chance to spend time in a relaxed environment as you take in the colors.
• Best viewing time: Mid- – late Nov (Ginkgo, trident maples, varieties of Japanese maples, Yoshino cherry trees, and other trees whose leaves turn with the arrival of fall are scattered around the park. Enjoy the leisurely atmosphere under the row of zelkovas.)

• Directions: 3-min. walk from Exit 2 of Meijo Koen Station on the Meijo Subway Line.
Seto City
Jokoji Temple / Jokoji Park
Jokoji Temple is designated a national important cultural property and its nearby Jokoji Park is almost equally famous for its beautiful autumn hues. The temple and park both enjoy a lovely grade of bright reds throughout their premises.
• Best viewing time: Mid-Nov–early Dec (approx. 200 Japanese maples, maples, and more)
• Address: 373 Jokoji-cho, Seto-shi, Aichi
• Directions: Approx. 25-min. walk from Jokoji Station on the JR Chuo Line.
Toyota City
Korankei Gorge
Around 4,000 maple varieties paint Mt. Iimori in spectacular colors. The reflection of the red and yellow mountain off Tomoe River is another breathtaking scene.
• Best viewing time: Mid- – late Nov (11 varieties of approx. 4,000 maples)
• Address: Iimori, Asuke-cho, Toyota-shi, Aichi
• Directions: Get on the Toyota Oiden Bus's Asuke Line (bound for Hyakunenso) and ride until Korankei Bus Stop from Josui Station on the Meitetsu Toyota Line (approx. 60 min).

• Illumination: Sundown–9:00 pm
• No extensions to period or time.
Inuyama City
Jakkoin Temple
Inuyama City's Jakkoin Temple is known as the Owari area's Maple Temple with around 1,000 maple trees in the temple premises offering jaw-dropping scenery. Each year during the maple festival, the area's famous sweetfish sushi (sushi rolls with sweetfish simmered in a sweet sauce) is available to much acclaim.
• Best viewing time: Mid-Nov–early Dec (1,000 Japanese and other varieties of maples)
• Address: 12 Suginodan, Tsugao, Inuyama-shi, Aichi
• Directions: 2 km upstream along the Kiso River after getting off at Inuyama Yuen Station on the Meitetsu Line (approx. 20-min. walk or 5-min. taxi ride).

Shurakuen Park
Beautiful fall leaves frame the park's Great Buddha for an unforgettable view. The park and Great Buddha are illuminated at night for a different feel than that of the daytime.
• Best viewing time: Mid-Nov–early Dec (six varieties of approx. 500 Japanese and other maples)
• Address: Nishi-Maruyama, Arao-machi, Tokai-shi, Aichi
• Directions: 5-min. walk east from Shurakuen Station on the Meitetsu Tokoname Line.
