Calbee, Inc. now offering the taste of Aichi with miso katsu-flavored potato chips!
The distinct, local soul food of Nagoya in Aichi is lovingly referred to as "Nagoya meshi", meaning Nagoya food, and consists of a wide variety of dishes such as hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice), miso nikomi udon (udon noodles in a miso broth), and tebasaki (chicken wings).
Potato chips with the taste of miso katsu, or pork cutlet with a sweet miso sauce over it--the flavor of Aichi--are available locally and for a limited time from Monday, November 18.
Snack manufacturer Calbee, Inc. is continuing its project "♥JPN" (Love Japan) from recent years, which promotes the local flavors of Japan's 47 prefectures by recreating and selling those flavors in the form of potato chips. In 2017, there was the tebasaki flavor; in 2018, it was Taiwan ramen (spicy ramen noodles); and the flavor for this year has been deemed miso katsu.
Miso katsu is a famous food from Nagoya consisting of a crunchy, fried pork cutlet with a sweet, miso base sauce poured over it. And be sure to check out the Nagoya-esque design sporting the gold shachihoko ornaments of Nagoya Castle used on the package.
Whether you've tasted miso katsu or not, you've got to try these chips.
