What is Kōdō ?
Kōdō, Japan’s traditional art of incense appreciation, has a history of over a thousand years. This practice involves enjoying the subtle fragrances of rare woods, calming the mind and sharpening the spirit. First embraced by nobles in the Heian period, kōdō is still valued today, both in Japan and abroad, as a way to find inner peace. Aichi Prefecture’s Shino School, dating back to the Muromachi period, is recognized as a cultural treasure, preserving this ancient tradition.
Highlights of the Experience
In this workshop, beginners can easily enjoy making their own "fragrant sachet" to take home. While learning about the history and culture of incense, participants will blend several types of incense to create a unique, original fragrant sachet. Each person can make two.
